The boundary between Richland and Lawrence Counties divides this landscape of agricultural plateaus and creek bottoms. The village of Claremont sits near the western edge, while the city of Sumner and the settlement of Hadley occupy the eastern portion of the quadrangle. The terrain is defined by the winding course of Bonpas Creek and several smaller tributaries like Bugaboo Creek and Higgins Creek that have carved gentle valleys into the Illinois prairie.
