Clear Lake dominates the southern landscape of this northern Iowa region, where the residential developments of Ventura and the western edge of the city of Clear Lake meet the shoreline. The topography is defined by the transition from open agricultural blocks to the complex wetlands of Mallard Marsh Swamp in the north, managed by Mallard Marsh Dam Number One and Number Three. This drainage system feeds the Winnebago River as it meanders through the northwest corner, while Willow Creek cuts across the central plains toward the lake.
