Humboldt National Forest encompasses much of this high-elevation landscape, where the Schell Creek Range and the Duck Creek Range converge. This 2018 survey documents a region defined by its critical water sources and rugged topography, centered on the Duck Creek Valley. The terrain is marked by numerous canyons, including Ostergard Canyon, Water Canyon, and Bone Yard Canyon, which drain the steep slopes toward the valley floor.
