Lochsa River flows through the northern reaches of this Idaho interior, serving as the primary corridor for the Lochsa Wild and Scenic River and providing access to recreation at Major Fenn Campground and Knife Edge Campground. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes across the Clearwater National Forest and Nez Perce National Forest, where high ridges like Coolwater Ridge and Knife Edge Ridge separate deep drainages. A series of remote mountain lakes, including Andys Lakes, Coolwater Lake, and Fire Lake, are tucked into the high country near the Lookout Tower atop Coolwater Mtn. To the south, the Coolwater Remount and Indian Springs highlight the historical management of these forest lands. This map also marks the western edge of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, showing a landscape navigated primarily by routes such as the Knife Edge Trail and Roundtop Trail.
