About this map

The Double Mountain Fork Brazos River winds through this rugged section of West Texas, anchoring a landscape shaped by petroleum extraction and ranching water management. In the late 1960s, the Garza Oil Field and Rocker A Oil Field dominated the local economy, marked by numerous Oil Wells, Drill Holes, and a network of Pipeline corridors. The Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe railroad cuts across the northern corner, passing near a Roadside Park and the distinct topographic height of Two Bush Knob. Away from the river, the dependency on seasonal water is evident in the proliferation of named stock tanks such as Kelly Tank, Crowley Tank, and Frog Tank, which supported the surrounding rangeland. Erosion patterns along Cooper Creek define the broken terrain between the uplands and the river valley.
