Cordova serves as the focal point for this mid-century maritime and mountain survey, situated where the Heney Range meets the complex waterways of Orca Inlet. This area reflects a period of established coastal industry and transportation, evidenced by the Airstrip, Dock, and the proximity of the Eyak Cannery along the southern marshes. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes, from the tidal flats of Odiak Slough and Mud to the 2,506-foot peak of Mt Eyak. The interior is dominated by Eyak Lake, which drains via Mountain Slough toward the coast. Significant local history markers include a Cem near the town site and several small settlements like Mavis and Eyak that underscore the early development of this Prince William Sound gateway. The map also captures the glacial drainage patterns of the Rude River and numerous family-named peaks such as Snyder Mtn.
