Chugach National Forest encompasses this wilderness area where the Chugach Mountains meet the complex shoreline of Prince William Sound. The landscape is defined by deep tidal inlets and the drainage systems of the Sheep River and Sahlin Creek, which carries water from Sahlin Falls into the sea. These protected lands demonstrate the typical coastal geography of the region, featuring sharp transitions from high mountain peaks down to the sea-level waters of Beartrap Bay and Sheep Bay. This survey provides a modern snapshot of the hydrologic and topographic profile of the Alaskan coast, including the southern waters of Simpson Bay and the presence of North Island at the mouth of the bay.
