About this map

Coyote Flat dominates the high-altitude landscape of this eastern Sierra Nevada quadrangle, where the massive upland plateau transitions into the steep drainages of the Inyo National Forest. In the mid-1980s, this area remained largely defined by its primitive trail systems and significant water resources, including the headwaters of Coyote Creek and Baker Creek. The southwestern portion of the sheet provides detail on the glacial basin within the John Muir Wilderness, where a string of alpine water bodies such as First Lake, Second Lake, and Summit Lake sit beneath the high peaks.
