Laramie River headwaters and a complex network of historic irrigation projects define this high-altitude landscape along the Colorado and Wyoming border. Located within the Roosevelt National Forest, the area is marked by rugged summits including Crazy Mtn, Pinkham Mtn, and the distinctive Dempsey Dome. A legacy of early ranching and water rights is visible in the numerous named waterways such as the Mansfield and Enlargement Ditch, Forrester Ditch Number 1, and Lower La Garde Ditch. These diversions draw from the river and smaller tributaries like Granny Cr and Jimmy Cr to support the surrounding valley. Local history is anchored by the Forrester Cem near Little Hohnholz Lake, serving as a silent witness to the families who established themselves in the shadows of the Medicine Bow Mountains.
