About this map

The Elkhorn Mountains dominate this high-altitude landscape along the border of Broadwater and Jefferson counties, defined by a legacy of mountain mining and complex watersheds. During the late 20th-century revision, the area remained a rugged interior of the Helena National Forest and Deerlodge National Forest. Significant mining activity is evidenced by numerous prospects and mine shafts, including the Callahan Mine, Pataloma Mine, and the dual Big Tizer Wildcat Mine and Little Tizer Wildcat Mine.
