Akeley and Chamberlain anchor this northern Minnesota landscape, where the dense hydrology of the lake country meets the protected boundaries of the Chippewa National Forest. The terrain is defined by an intricate network of water bodies, including the centrally located Crystal Lake and the winding Shingobee River which flows through the north. To the northwest, Tenth Crow Wing Lake marks the beginning of a chain of lakes that has historically drawn travelers and residents to the region.
