The Curecanti Needle rises as a prominent landmark within the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, marking a landscape defined by dramatic vertical relief and the engineered waters of the Morrow Point Reservoir. This 2022 survey captures the high-altitude terrain where the Gunnison River carves through the Colorado plateau, flanked by the broad expanses of Black Mesa and Soap Mesa. Much of the quadrangle is protected within the Curecanti National Recreation Area and the Gunnison National Forest.
