Glacial lakes and marshlands define the geography of northern Oakland County in this late 1960s survey. The landscape is split between the busy rail hubs of Holly and Davisburg, where the Chesapeake and Ohio and Grand Trunk Western railroads facilitated regional transport and commerce. Outside these village centers, the terrain transitions into the sprawling Holly State Recreation Area, dotted with numerous water bodies like Wildwood Lake and Valley Lake.
