Organized around the townships of Kerkhoven and Hayes, the area shows a distinct pattern of rural community life centered on isolated landmarks such as the Townhall and several country congregations including Frank Lake Ch and Spring Creek Ch. Large portions of the terrain are dedicated to wildlife preservation, notably the Camp Kerk State Wildlife Management Area and the Monson State Wildlife Management Area.
