Hogup Mountains dominate the western horizon of this desert landscape, where the steep slopes of the range meet the expansive flats of Gunnison Bay. Published in 1992 based on 1980s field revisions, the map captures the stark shoreline of the Great Salt Lake at a recorded elevation 4200. The rugged eastern face of the mountains is marked by several alluvial features, including the prominent Big Wash, which drains toward the vast stretches of mud surrounding Dolphin Island.
