The agricultural plains of Iroquois County and the neighboring Indiana state line define this landscape, where the village of Donovan sits at the junction of Co Hwy 2 and Co Hwy 49. North of town, the small settlements of Hooper and North Hooper are connected by a grid of rural roads, including N 2700 East Rd. The region is heavily shaped by water management, featuring an intricate network of man-made channels like Beaver Ditch Number 1 and Beaver Ditch Number 2 that drain the fertile soils into Beaver Creek.

Preservation of local history is evident at the Beaver Cem and the J H Grant Memorial Cem, which provide significant points for genealogical research. Along the eastern border, the terrain shifts into the marshy conservation areas surrounding J C Murphey Lake and Cory Lake. Aviation history is represented by the Russell Airport, a small facility situated just west of the primary north-south drainage routes.
