Doty Ridge serves as the central topographic feature of this high plains landscape in Stanley County, defining the drainage patterns of the surrounding territory. The area is characterized by an intricate network of intermittent waterways, where the headwaters of Brush Cr and Lance Cr carve through the prairie. In the southern reaches of the quadrangle, Tomahawk Cr and Plum Cr further segment the terrain. Human presence is sparse, marked primarily by the geometric grid of rural transit, including 213th St. This 2012 survey illustrates the remote character of central South Dakota, where the vast natural drainage system remains the primary defining force on the land, largely undisturbed by dense development or major infrastructure.
