About this map

Tuscarora Mountain and the parallel ridges of the Appalachian Fold-and-Thrust Belt dominate this mid-1960s survey of northern Franklin County. The landscape is defined by its narrow valleys, where settlements like Doylesburg and Amberson developed along agricultural corridors between the steep slopes of Kittatinny Mountain and Blue Mountain. Much of the high ground is preserved within the Tuscarora State Forest, while the lower lands show a mix of rural life and transit, including the prominent path of the Pennsylvania Turnpike cutting through the southern portion of the quadrangle.
