Transitioning east across the Idaho Wyoming state line, the terrain shifts abruptly into the high elevations of the Targhee National Forest. This rugged eastern half is defined by the steep drainage of Darby Canyon and the protected lands of the Jedediah Smith Wilderness. Between the wild peaks and the developed valley lie the smaller communities of Alta, Darby, and Chapin, alongside local landmarks like the Driggs-Reed Memorial Airport and several historic burial grounds including Driggs Cem.
