Rotten Grass Creek meanders through the heart of this Big Horn County landscape, carving the significant Rotten Grass Canyon in the southwest. The terrain is defined by a complex network of drainages and basins typical of the Montana plains, including the expansive Cooper Basin to the north and the deep indentations of Ash Coulee. Remote access is limited to a few documented routes such as Rotten Grass Crk Rd and the optimistically named Good Luck Rd, which provide the primary entry points into this backcountry area. The map illustrates a watershed divided among several named flows, including Dry Soap Creek, Willow Creek, and the uniquely titled Christmas Tree Coulee. This 2024 survey by the U.S. Geological Survey details the contemporary topography of these drainages before they join larger systems beyond the quadrangle boundaries.
