About this map

The Continental Divide serves as the central spine of this survey, marking the high-altitude boundary between the Arapaho National Forest to the west and the Roosevelt National Forest to the east. The landscape is defined by the legacy of high-mountain transit, anchored by the eastern entrance of the Moffat Tunnel at East Portal. Traces of earlier transportation methods are visible in the Old Railroad Grade winding near Riflesight Notch and the Rollins Pass (Site), once a critical crossing point for the railroad before the tunnel provided a direct subterranean route.
