Osceola and Elmira sit atop the dissected uplands of the Illinois prairie, where the drainage of the W Fork Spoon River has carved a complex network of ridges and draws. This 2021 survey illustrates a rural landscape defined by straight section-line roads like Osceola Rd and Division St that abruptly yield to the winding contours of the river valley. Genealogists will find several significant burial sites, including the Osceola Cem and the Osceola Grove Cem near the riverbanks, as well as the Elmira Cem situated just east of its namesake settlement. To the south, the village of Modena lies near the Spoon River and the Allendale Conservation Club Lake, marking a transition from open farmland to more wooded riparian zones. The map also identifies local landmarks such as Jackson Field and small tributaries like Jack Cr and Jug Run.
