Equinox Mountain and the towering ridges of the Green Mountain range define the landscape of this southern Vermont survey, conducted in the late 19th century. The Batten Kill river valley serves as the primary corridor for settlement and transit, linking the major hubs of Manchester and Arlington. Distinct industrial and transport patterns are visible in the clustering of Manchester Center and Manchester Depot, where the Bennington & Rutland RR facilitated the region's movement of timber and marble.

Remote upland settlements such as Beartown and Fayville appear alongside family-named hollows and peaks, including Mother Myrick Mtn. and Moffitt Mtn.. To the east, the Green Mountain Line traverses high terrain near the curious place names of Kansas and East Kansas. The map also captures several mountain water bodies, such as Bourn Pond and Branch Pond, which fed the various local brooks that powered small-scale industry like the Mill near The Burnin.
