The boundary between Randolph Co and Moore Co bisects a landscape defined by rural crossroads and the headwaters of the Deep River basin. In the southern portion, the settlement of Westmore sits near the winding course of Bear Cr, while Jugtown serves as a historic marker of the region’s traditional pottery heritage. The topography is anchored by Pond Mtn and Needhams Mtn, which overlook the dense timber of the Uwharrie National Forest. A network of creeks, including Richland Creek and Fork Creek, carved the valleys where early industry took root. Evidence of this water-powered past remains at Yow Mill and the Lambert Mill Dam. The map also details named roads that follow ancient ridgelines, such as Old State Hwy 13 and Old Cox Rd, connecting the scattered communities of Erect and its surrounding farmsteads.
