The high alpine country of the Wasatch Plateau is defined by a series of significant reservoirs and ridges within the Manti-La Sal National Forest. Centered around Fairview Lakes and the nearby Beaver Dam Reservoir, the landscape is a network of canyons and forks, including the deep cuts of Fairview Canyon and Boulger Canyon. Higher elevations are marked by distinctive landmarks such as Pine Crown Peak and Quake Mountain, which stand above the interconnected drainages of Gooseberry Creek and Cottonwood Creek.
