Faison sits at the northern edge of this coastal plain landscape, where the CSX Transportation railroad line provides a north-south backbone for regional transport. The terrain is defined by a dense network of blackwater drainages and wetlands, including Tenmile Swamp, Mill Swamp, and Beaverdam Swamp, which eventually feed into Six Runs Cr and Turkey Cr. These water systems historically influenced the placement of agricultural settlements and roads across the Sampson and Duplin County line.
