Isle Royale National Park defines the southwest corner of this wilderness archipelago, where the land meets the cold waters of Lake Superior. The landscape is dominated by the prominent elevation of Feldtmann Ridge, which overlooks Feldtmann Lake and the sweeping shoreline of Rainbow Cove. This 2014 survey documents the coastal features of the island, including exposed hazards like Cumberland Reef and distinctive projections such as The Head and Rainbow Point. To the north, the protected waters of Grace Harbor are sheltered by Washington Island and Middle Point, illustrating the complex maritime geography that has long challenged navigators in the region. The inland terrain is marked by the drainage of the Big Siskiwit River, showing the natural hydrology of the island before it reaches the surrounding lake.
