The Mississippi River floodplain south of Ferriday is defined by an intricate network of waterways and low-lying wetlands. Much of the western landscape is dedicated to the Bayou Cocodrie National Wildlife Refuge, where Bayou Cocodrie and Turtle Bayou meander through the bottomlands. This environment transitions into a corridor of rural settlements along the river's western bank, including Ridgecrest, Minorca, and Saint Genevieve.
