The small settlement of Fillmore stands at the heart of this prairie landscape, situated near the boundary between Pierce and Benson Counties. The area is characterized by numerous seasonal wetlands and larger water bodies including Long Lake, Sand Lake, and the expansive Cranberry Lake to the southeast. Local genealogy and history are preserved at the Fillmore Lutheran Cemetery and Saint Anns Cemetery, both located just outside the main cluster of the town. A grid of section roads, such as 52nd St NE and 38th Ave NE, provides access across the glaciated terrain, which is dotted with countless small depressions and prairie potholes typical of this region of North Dakota.
