Lincoln Highway 1 and the historic Pony Express Rd intersect in this remote stretch of the Great Basin, tracing the evolution of transcontinental travel through the West. The landscape is dominated by the Great Salt Lake Desert and Fish Springs Flat, where the boundary between Tooele and Juab counties meets. The hydrography of the region is notably concentrated in the southwest corner, where a series of wetlands including Harrison Pool, Gadwall Pool, Ibis Pool, and Egret Pool provide a stark contrast to the surrounding arid terrain. Further east, the Black Rock Hills rise near the prominent Black Rock landmark. This survey documents the modern state of these ancient travel corridors, including the Staley Reservoir and the drainage of Fish Springs Wash.
