The Rio Grande and its engineered water systems dominate the landscape at the border of El Paso and Hudspeth Counties. This 2019 survey documents the complex network of irrigation and drainage essential to the arid West Texas desert, including the Hudspeth Main Canal and the Kelly Lateral. The international boundary between the Usa and Mexico is clearly delineated along the river corridor, paralleled by modern transit routes such as Alameda Ave. These features illustrate the continued reliance on the river as both a political divider and a lifeblood for the agricultural tracts that skirt the valley floor near the Tornillo Drain and Kelly Drain.
