Fredericksburg stands at the eastern edge of this landscape, its grid of streets like Main St and Llano St giving way to the sprawling ranchlands of the Texas Hill Country. The terrain is defined by a dense network of seasonal drainages, including Pecan Creek, Honey Creek, and Live Oak Creek, which have carved the limestone into prominent rises like the Hotopp Hills and Schlaudt Hills. This late 1960s survey, updated in the early 1980s, captures the town's expansion toward the west and the distribution of institutional landmarks such as the National Guard Armory, St Mary Cem, and the Fairground. Local history is preserved in the names of family landmarks and rural sites, from the Schugh Cem in the north to the distinctive high point of Schneider Hill in the south, while numerous Gravel Pits indicate the local extraction industries that supported the region's development.
