About this map

The Double Mountain Fork Brazos River winds through this West Texas landscape, cutting a path through the upper reaches of the Caprock region. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes where the high plains break away into the breaks of the Brazos, most notably at the striking Red Canyon in the northeastern corner. This area along the Garza Co and Borden Co line is characterized by an intricate drainage network of seasonal streams, including Gavett Cr, E Gavett Cr, and Sand Cr. These watercourses have historically dictated the placement of ranch roads and cattle crossings in an area where water management is central to the land's utility. A few established routes, such as FM 2350 and Co Rd 386, provide access across this sparsely populated ranching country, tracing the natural contours of the breaks.
