The Double Mountain Fork Brazos River cuts across the northern edge of this West Texas landscape, where the Caprock breaks into a complex of drainage systems and canyons. This 2022 survey documents the transition from the high plains down into the rougher breaks of the Brazos watershed, defined by the winding course of Sand Cr and the deeply incised Red Canyon. The area is bisected by the Garza Co Borden Co line, a boundary that separates the livestock and ranching lands of the southern Panhandle. Transportation in this sparse region relies on a network of ranch roads and farm-to-market routes, including FM 2350 and FM 612, which connect isolated homesteads and grazing operations. Notable local landmarks such as Gavett Cr and Gopher Cr trace the natural topography of the Llano Estacado's eastern edge.
