Gallup and its western outskirts are anchored by the high-traffic corridor of US Highway 491 and the BNSF Railway, marking a landscape defined by traditional industry and high-desert hydrology. The northern sections are carved by several dry washes, including Burned Death Wash and Many Arrow Wash, which descend toward the Puerco River valley. This 2013 survey shows the transition from the city center to industrial and residential settlements like Gamerco, Coal Basin, and Allison.
