The survey illustrates the intense industrial activity concentrated along Chalk Creek, where the Aerial Tramway and proximity to the Old Alpine Tunnel supported remote camps like Romley and Hancock. These communities, along with St Elmo, served as hubs for an exhaustive network of claims including the Bon Ton Mine and Pride of the West Mine.

The Continental Divide zigzags through the center of the sheet, separating the Gunnison and Chaffee county line. To the south, the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad follows the North Fork Arkansas River through Garfield and Monarch.
