Government Camp serves as the primary highland settlement in this high-elevation corridor of the Mount Hood National Forest. The landscape is defined by the sharp relief of Zigzag Mountain and Tom Dick and Harry Mtn, where modern winter recreation infrastructure like Wally's Way and the Skiway meet historic transit corridors. The Pioneer Bridle trail and the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail trace the ridges and canyons, including the steep Laurel Hill Chute. Water resources are abundant, ranging from high-alpine basins like Wind Creek Basin to the protected waters of the Sandy Wild and Scenic River and Zigzag Wild and Scenic River. Numerous small lakes, such as Mirror Lake and Enid Lake, are interconnected by a complex network of nordic trails and forest roads that highlight the area's transition into a year-round outdoor destination.
