The coastal marshlands and intricate tidal inlets of the Alabama-Mississippi border are defined here by a shifting network of bayous and islands. Along the western edge, The Prairie transitions into the brackish waters of Bangs Lake and the winding Bangs Bayou. The landscape is dominated by the sprawling Pt Aux Chenes Bay, where numerous small islands such as L'Isle Chaude and Bangs Island separate the inner marshes from the open waters of the Mississippi Sound.
