About this map

Tarkio River headwaters and a intricate network of prairie tributaries define this section of southwest Iowa in the late 1970s. The landscape is primarily divided into large agricultural tracts across Pleasant and Noble townships, with the boundary between Cass and Montgomery counties cutting through the southern portion of the map. Small-scale local history is preserved at the Lowman Cem near the river bank and the Pilot Grove County Park to the southeast. The drainage patterns are clearly visible through named watercourses like Baughmans Creek and Sevenmile Creek, while evidence of local industry appears in the form of a Gravel Pit along Rose Creek. A Golf Course in the northwest corner suggests the creeping influence of recreational land use at the edge of more traditional rural townships.
