The Wind River Range defines this high-elevation wilderness along the boundary of Shoshone National Forest and Bridger National Forest. The crest of the Continental Divide winds through the center of the terrain, followed by the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. This area is characterized by a dense concentration of alpine water bodies, including Middle Fork Lake, Lake Isabella, and Rainbow Lake, many of which are tucked into glacially carved features like Europe Canyon and North Fork Canyon. Significant peaks such as Europe Peak, Medina Mtn, and Halls Mtn punctuate the landscape. The trail network is a primary feature of the era, with the Highline trail providing access to the southern reaches near Sandpoint Lake and Fire Hole Lakes.
