Chapin and the northern outskirts of Hampton anchor this 2018 survey of Franklin County, where the agricultural grid is defined by a dense network of local avenues and streets. The landscape is carved by numerous waterways, including the winding Otter Creek and the West Fork Cedar River in the northeast corner. These streams create the only significant breaks in the geometric section lines that otherwise dominate this part of the Iowa prairie.
