The Seaboard Coast Line railroad creates a north-south spine through this section of Georgia, anchoring the small settlements of Haralson and Alvaton as it crosses the county line. The landscape is defined by the drainage of White Oak Creek and its many tributaries, such as Winky Branch and Wolf Branch, as they flow toward the Flint River at the southeastern corner of the quadrangle.

Evidence of established rural communities is seen through several country churches and cemeteries, including New Hope Ch and Mt Pilgrim Cem. A unique landmark from this era is the Covered Bridge located along the middle reach of White Oak Creek. To the west, the community of Alps sits near Shoals Creek, while the Beaver Lake Country Club indicates mid-century recreational development near the McCrary Sch.
