The Superior National Forest and Cloquet Valley State Forest define the heavily wooded landscape of this St. Louis County quadrangle. Water is the primary geographic driver, dominated by the eastern reaches of the Whiteface Reservoir and the convergence of the North Branch and South Branch Whiteface River. This 1985 photorevised edition documents a backcountry network of service routes and trails, including the Northeast Grade and Camp 26 Road, which navigate the drainages of Wallow Creek and Porcupine Creek.
