The Angelina National Forest covers much of this San Augustine County landscape, where the waters of Ayish Bayou and several creeks define the local geography. Small, family-named burial sites such as Nathaniel Beck Cem, Croker - Boren Cem, and Pisgah Cem are scattered throughout the wooded terrain, providing valuable touchstones for genealogists researching East Texas history. The network of small watercourses, including Couchatana Cr, Sandy Cr, and Harvey Cr, feed eventually into the Sam Rayburn Reservoir in the southwest corner. Transportation in this timber-rich area is anchored by HWY 83 and the winding Turkeyhill Rd, which passes near the elevation of Turkey Hill. This survey illustrates the modern intersection of public forest lands and established local homestead history.
