The Illinois River dictates the landscape of this riverfront region, where the Mason County Courthouse stands at the center of Havana. The confluence of the Spoon River and the Illinois River creates a complex system of waterways and islands, including the Island of Canton and Matanzas Island. To the north and west, the terrain transitions into the bluffs near Sepo, while the eastern side of the river is defined by the expansive Lake Chautauqua and Quiver Lake.
