Lake Sakakawea dominates the northern reaches of this landscape, where the waters of the Little Missouri River meet the reservoir's complex, finger-like shoreline. The geography is defined by high plateaus and distinct landforms such as Hay Flat and Mower Machine Flat, which rise above the drainages of Bear Creek. The presence of Old Man Dancing Butte provides a significant topographic landmark south of the lake, while the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery sits near the eastern edge along BIA Route 20. This 2011 survey records the road network of the Fort Berthold area, including BIA Route 22 and Mossett Rd, which navigate the draws and ridges leading down to the water.
