Hayfork Valley centers this 2018 survey of the Trinity County interior, where the community of Hayfork sits at the confluence of several mountain drainages. The landscape is defined by its dramatic relief, transitioning from the flat expanse of the valley floor where the Hayfork Airport is located, into the dense, high-elevation terrain of the Trinity National Forest. Steep ridges such as Farmer Ridge and Thompson Peak rise sharply from the valley, separated by a complex network of named gulches and creeks that descend from the surrounding peaks.
