The Coteau des Prairies plateau shapes the landscape of this southwestern Minnesota borderland between Murray and Cottonwood counties. The upper reaches of the Des Moines River flow through the southern half of the quadrangle, feeding into significant water management areas including a large Wildlife Impoundment and the Wildlife Pond. The terrain is defined by its glacial history, with scattered prairie potholes and basins such as Oaks Lake, Lake Louisa, and Long Lake punctuating the grid of section-line roads.
