Medicine Bow National Forest occupies the western portion of this 2015 survey, where the rugged topography is defined by the descent from the mountains toward the Laramie plains. The Laramie River and its seasonal counterpart, the Dry Laramie River, dominate the drainage patterns of the eastern slopes. A network of early ranching infrastructure is evident throughout the landscape, characterized by numerous small-scale water management systems such as the Mertz Ditch, Pine Ditch, and Cramer Ditch. These irrigation features, along with several named basins like the J N Metz Reservoir and Bohke Reservoir, reflect the historic necessity of water control for agriculture in Platte County. The transit network follows the natural terrain, with Palmer Canyon Rd traversing the central Palmer Canyon and Marble Rd winding through the northern sections near Marble Quarry Cr and Shapley Draw.
