Pahranagat Valley is defined here by its essential water sources, centered on the settlement of Hiko and the vital Hiko Spring. The landscape transitions from the irrigated valley floor, managed in part by the Key Pittman Wildlife Management Area, to the steep contours of the Hiko Range and the wide expanse of Six Mile Flat to the east.

Surface water is a prominent feature in this desert environment, with Nesbitt Lake, Frenchy Lake, and Crystal Springs providing a sharp contrast to the surrounding canyon and wash terrain. Local history is anchored by the small Cem and evidence of local industry at the Gravel Pit, Borrow Pit, and a lonely Prospect. This 1970 snapshot preserves the rural character of this northern Lincoln County corridor before significant modern alterations.
